Among The Trees is a Marrickville-based social enterprise dedicated to reclaiming timber that would otherwise go to waste. We accept donations of used tools and timber, which we de-nail, resurface, and make available for purchase. This initiative not only reduces landfill waste but also provides affordable, sustainable timber options for the community. Our hand-tool school and courses are a hit, and they wouldn’t be as successful as they have been without the generous donations of hand tools we’ve been given. We don’t want to take any tools you’re using out of your hands, but if you’ve got some hand tools lying around that you don’t or won’t use any longer, we would love to restore them, sharpen them up, and put them in the hands of our students.
Accepted items
We accept donations of timber and tools. Timber: Hardwoods and softwoods, timber with wear or weather damage, previously used timber (e.g., fence posts, slats, broken-down hardwood furniture), timber from building demolitions or renovations, long-stored timber, plywood in good condition, timber with some nails or screws. Tools: - Hand tools and bits including blades, parts, boxes and instruction manuals, catalogues - Handheld power tools - Workshop machinery
Condition of items
Usable
Timber should not be more metal than wood; we de-nail on-site but cannot accept timber heavily embedded with metal. All hand tools in moderate to good condition: -Tools in good condition mean we can put them into use immediately. -Moderate condition means they’ve seen better days but all or most of the parts are still in place and any moving parts are still able to move, at least a little bit
