REuse
Bikes 4 Life is a not for profit organisation that alleviates poverty and social injustice in Australia and overseas by recycling and restoring discarded bikes. The Sydney branch has repaired and gifted, more than 3,500 bicycles since 2019. In addition it has gifted another 1,200+ unrepaired lower quality bikes to be exported to Africa for repair there. Bikes we send overseas are often used as the main source of transport for a whole family, and so a simple bike can become an incredibly valuable asset. As we have no other income, we often sell better quality bikes, and most road race bikes we receive, to fund our operations. Sales proceeds not only pay for parts and tools we need, but more importantly, we can build up monies to purchase 40 foot containers, and then finance the very expensive freight costs to move that container to one of the overseas charities we have formed a strong partnership with.
